The back cover is a sketch penned by my good self a few months before the album release - I won't mention my age at that point :-)
To see the back cover sketch you'll just have to buy the album :-) xx

After a busy summer with dates including the Vortex (you tube clip featured above) and the Sudtirol Jazz festival, Tori and the trio are soon to go back into the studio to record their second album. Check back here for more news on that soon. Tori has also been busy performing in a variety of projects including performances at the Manchester Jazz Festival featuring dates with Neil Yates's 'Surroundings Revisited' featuring Iain Ballamy (playing music from the 'Surroundings project' which had originally inspired the music for Tori's album 'In the Chophouse') and with a new duo collaboration with pianist Alcyona Mick, featuring music from 'In the Chophouse' at St Ann's Church in Manchester (opposite Mr Thomas' Chophouse coincidentally) as well as a reunion project playing violin in the Cuban band 'La Timbala'.
As well as the new trio album, there are some exciting new projects on the horizon for Tori including an album launch tour with fellow Whirlwind artist Ivo Neame Quintet in October featuring a live recording for Jamie Cullum's BBC Radio 2 show, and a new project with another fellow Whirlwind artist Andre Canniere featuring Brigitte Beraha, John Turville, Dave Manington and Tim Giles which will premiere at the Vortex on 4 October. Tori will be featured on a number of dates throughout the festival. On the 2nd Aug at 8pm at the Festival Pavilion Tori will be playing violin in a reunion gig with the fantastic Cuban band 'Orquesta Timbala'. It's the first time they've all played together for many years and the great rumbero Santiago Garzón Rill, better known as Chaguito, has travelled over from Cuba for the occasion. At 1pm on the 4th Aug she'll be playing at St Ann's Church in a new collaboration with pianist Alcyona Mick and then on the 8th Aug at the Central library with Neil Yates' 'Surroundings Revisited' project featuring Iain Ballamy. The 'Surroundings' Project was the inspiration behind the 'In the Chop House' album. With all these collaborations old and new the festival's going to be a particularly special occasion this year and it's their 20th birthday too!
You can listen to a track of Tori on violin featuring Chaguito and members of 'La Timbala' here:
Tori and the trio have been busy playing at home and abroad. They just returned from the Sudtirol Jazz Festival in Italy (pictured) where they had an amazing time playing, but also managed to find time to hike n the beautiful mountains, swim in a few lakes and of course sample some of the fantastic wine from the region! The next gig is on the 27th July at the Vortex, London which is possibly the last gig before they go into the studio to record a second album in September. More news on that soon as well as news of Tori's upcoming projects and collaborations in the Manchester Jazz Festival coming soon!
After a great tour with the Ivo Neame Quintet, the reviews have been rolling in, including a four star guardian review, a four and a half star all about jazz review and a live review by jazzwise magazine. There'll be more opportunities to see the quintet later in the year, but for now the trio are busy this month playing at the Sudtirol Jazz Festival in Italy and a London date at the Vortex later in the month. Tori will feature in two concerts - on violin in a reunion concert with the Cuban band 'La Timbala on the 2nd August and a new collaboration with Alcyona Mick in St Ann's Church on 4 August. The church happens to be next door to the Chophouse, so there'll certainly be a trip to the pub involved at some point in the proceedings!

Definitely worth investing in a copy!Read More
2014 has been such a great year for the trio with the album release/tour and performances in jazz festivals in the UK and abroad. Some highlights have been the La Laguna Jazz Festival in Tenerife (see pic above plus clips and an interview in Spanish can be seen on the reviews/interviews page), the Manchester Jazz Festival where we got to revisit Mr Thomas' Chop House' once again and last but not least the Purcell rooms performance supporting Henri Texier at the EFG London Jazz Festival where I played the piece I had been commissioned to write especially for the event. The piece was based on a folk song about London and the river and there were some great reviews which can be found on the reviews/interviews page (there's also an interview about the project on there too).
The album reviews have been astounding, and 'In the Chop House' made it into the All About Jazz top 10 albums of 2014!
2015 should be just as exciting with a new album by the Ivo Neame Quintet (in which I play tenor and flute) being released and a coinciding tour later in the year. Another project 'Solstice' which is a sextet featuring Brigitte Beraha on vocals, John Turville on piano and myself on flute and saxes has recently been recorded. There'll be more news on that soon! The trio should be back in the studio at some point in 2015 too to record a second album with all the new material we've accumulated during 2014!
Happy New Year - let's hope it's even better than 2014 was!
The EFG London Jazz Festival starts on Friday 14th November, and there'll be some great gigs coming up. The trio are performing at the South Bank Centre on Sunday 16th November performing a new work by Tori commissioned especially for the event. The trio are also playing in the festival the week after and have been mentioned in 'Time Out' as one of the top ten picks (see above). Other gigs include the Barbican Centre with the E17 large ensemble and at E17 Jazz in Walthamstow with 'Solstice' featuring Brigitte Beraha and John Turville which will be a double bill with 'ST Fusion' a great band who'll have travelled all the way over from Tenerife for this special event! For more info go to the dates page or Tori's facebook page.
Very excited about playing and watching many gigs in the EFG London Jazz Festival! The trio will be supporting Henri Texier and the Hope Quartet (pictured above) at the South Bank on 16 November, and this will feature the premiere of a commission composed by Tori especially for the event. For more info on this and the festival check out the dates page or the festival website
More news and updates on this to follow over the next few weeks so keep checking in for updates!
The next trio gig is at the 606 in Chelsea (check out the dates page for further info) and this'll be the last in London for a while, so come down and catch us in this great venue if you can make it! Also, very excited to announce that our next London date after this will be in the London Jazz Festival at the Purcell Rooms on the 16 November supporting Henri Texier! It's going to be a great festival - check out some of the programme above (we're feeling very honoured to be in such great company) and the full listings here!
We had a great time at the Manchester Jazz Festival and spent a lovely evening at the Chop House too! Check out Adrian Pallant's review of the festival (which includes a mention of our gig) here. Thanks to Adrian too for the great pic! We've also had a lovely review of the album on 'Kind of Jazz'. Check this out on the tweets section of my homepage. After Manchester we had a mini tour of the South West which was brilliant fun. Swimming in the sea, eating pasties or fish and chips and then a lovely trio gig to round each day off - life doesn't get much better than that!
Apart from that, I've just recorded a new album with Ivo Neame's Quintet which is also going to be released on the 'Whirlwind' label which is great news. Looking forward to some gigs abroad with Ivo in September.
The trio have some more exciting projects and dates in the pipeline, so stay tuned for more on that very soon.
The album's received a glowing four star review in Jazzwise this month and there's also an interview feature in the same issue. We had some lovely gigs in May and especially enjoyed playing at the amazing jazz festival in La Laguna (plus of course having time to enjoy the beautiful island of Tenerife for a few days) and we're now thoroughly looking forward to some UK dates in July including Milestones Jazz Club in Lowestoft, a South West tour and a gig in the Manchester Jazz Festival (which will mean of course we'll just have to grab a pint in 'Thomas' Chop House' for old time's sake). There're lots of exciting gigs in the pipeline after that, so keep an eye on the dates page for more info!Read More
